Dr. Richard Adler, noted scientist, engineer and inventor, founded North Star Research Corporation in 1987 with the objective of developing new, innovative pulse power and high voltage technologies. The company's direction was to research and implement some of the new advances in pulse power technology such as magnetic switching, reliable high voltage power semiconductors and insulation techniques in the areas of plasma processing, accelerators and pulse modulators. Dr. Adler is also the author of the well known "Pulsed Power Formulary" which can be downloaded from our web site.
Dr. Adler and the North Star group contributed to research and experimentation in a variety of areas including:
Plasma processing: - implantation using very high currents
- plasma immersed metal ion implantation
- the creation highly reliable solid state modulators
- the creation of the first commercial plasma implantation service center
with Empire Hard Chrome
Accelerators:
- The creation and commercialization of the “Nested” accelerators using
solid insulation for reliable, precise DC beams
- Reduction to practice of new linear scanning technology for X-rays and
processing
- Demonstration and reduction to practice of pulsed ebeam technology
Power Supplies:
- Demonstration and commercialization of very light weight DC power
supplies using North Star’s proprietary air cor flux technology as
originally demonstrated in the Nested accelerators
The contributions have been recognized
with 2 R&D magazine R&D 100 awards.
In 2004, North Star Research was purchased by Ionatron (now
Applied Energetics Inc.), a company that develops laser-guided directed-energy weapons and technology, and the name was changed to North Star Power Engineering to better reflect its core product
lines and other capabilities. In 2006 the company was moved from Albuquerque to Tucson.
Dr. Adler leads the company as the Principal Scientist and Technical Sales Advisor for North Star Power Engineering. The company has a strong engineering effort lead by Rudolf H. Potter and Joshua Gilbrech. Robert Richter-Sand - long
associated with the North Star technical advances - acts as a consultant to the company. Peter Santaniello is the General Manager of NSPE
and the company is focused on building on its tradition of
innovation and commercialization
